General Tax Rate
Effective January 1, 2026, the sales tax rates for Decatur and Miller Counties in Georgia will change to 9% for most purchases.
Grocery Taxes
The rate on unprepared foods, such as fruits, vegetables, dairy products, breads and cereals, meats and poultry, and unsweetened beverages, is increasing to 5%. Prepared foods meant for immediate consumption, including hot takeout meals and restaurant dining, are fully taxable at the general rate.
Components of tax rate
Beginning on the effective date above, Decatur and Miller County sales taxes will be composed of:

Next Steps
You should update your cash register or point-of-sale systems with the new rate before making any sales after December 31, 2025. It is important to know that as a vendor you must pay the sales taxes whether you collect the proper rate or not!
